This is the less-famous little brother of our Macon-Villages.  Even though the wine was always fun and interesting to work with, in the past Aligoté had always had high yields and failed to ripen enough for sale in bottle.  The winery sold all of it to a bulk processor, but over the past five to ten years something began to change.  As the climate of the Mâconnais has warmed, the Aligoté was ripening into a bright, fruity and balanced wine.  Nowadays, throughout the region Aligoté is coming out of the dark and generating a lot of interest as a second Burgundy white. This cuvee, “La Pie-Rouette”, is one of the first bottlings of fun and fresh Aligoté from Margots.  It is produced with the same process as the Macon-Villages: fermented and aged on fine lees in concrete for nine months.  This is the perfect wine for indian summer, crisp, fresh and priming your palate for the heavier wines of the holidays. Alone, as an aperitif is where Aligoté shows best, but you could also pair it with your Sunday brunch and a Quiche Lorraine. The richness and creaminess of the pie would be well balanced by the minerality and the acidity of the Aligote. Enjoy now!

Appearance: medium intensity lemon to gold.
